A Case of Acute Renal Failure Combined with Hemolytic Anemia and Hepatitis due to Rifampin

Abstract

|
Rifampin is used widely in the treatment of tuberculosis. Hepatotoxic jaundice, thrombocytopenia, hemolysis and renal failure is a rare and severe complication associated with the nse of rifampin. Recently, we experienced a case of hemolytic
anemia,
acute renal failure and hepatitis due to rifampin. A 57 years old female took intermittent antituberculosis drugs including rifampin sunce she bda been diagnosed as renal tuberculosis one year ago and she developed acute renal failure,
intravascular
hemolysis, and hepatitis after recent readministration of tubular necrosis and acute hepatitis with cholestasis. The rifamin dependent antibodies were also identified by indirect natiglobulin test in the presence of rifampin. She recovered slowly
after
discontinution of rifapin case with a brief reiew of literature.
